Here then gone again

I'm home. Slightly sick, but getting over it.

SOLAR was a BLAST. Must go back to Cerroneth. I know most folks around here won't want to go all the way down there, but if peeps are still interested in going back to the local group I can forgo heading down to Miss to play with you guys. However I do know that many have been wanting to try Forest of Doors rather than SOLAR, so that's fine too. There is a local SOLAR event while I'm gone (June 29-July1), but the next one I can go to is the first weekend of August (both groups, same weekend). One thing people might like, but the prices are slightly different for Cerronth than for Clanthia. In all honesty, the only reasons I'd come play Clanthia is if my local friends want to go play and possibly only to get the GOB I"ve made there cashed in. And if anyone is willing to drive down there with me to MS, I can almost guarantee we can team up with some other groups so we wouldn't be alone and totally noobish. Hell, after one event I'm already at level 5 and I'd be perfectly willing to help guide everyone to get like that from the get go. I can also help folks get their characters made and prepare you for how things work, cause it is TOTALLY different from monstering. But anyway...

Oh, for those interested in the SCA stuff, there is a newcomers event up in TN (not too far away) called "Back to Basics", but it's while I'm gone. However, I'm sure that one or more of the local SCA people are either already planning on going or will go if asked. After I get back, there is a pretty local event (up in Gainsville, GA) called the Royal University of Meridies (RUM) which is almost ALL classes about just about everything under the sun. And it's only $26 bucks, including food (cept for sat lunch, which is a fundraiser) and lodging. Anyone wanting to go, please contact me so I can pre-reg for all of us and make sure we get in the same cabin, unless folks want to tent, which I can probably arrange as well.

Tomorrow Morning I fly to Michigan and won't be back until July 11. Folks, please take care of Pat. Love you all and Miss everyone. Wish there was time to see peeps before I go.

Tonight is either Fighter Practice or going to see Shrek 3 with Pat. Or maybe somewhat both. Anyway.. laters!

Hello Debra... as of now I am sold out of bed space for the 4 day event. I will let you know however if a cabin comes available.

Scott

I went from having a completely awesome day to having one of the crappiest days of the year so far.

I don't know what to do now.. everything is ruined.

Update: There is a no bed fee of $45 dollars (woo.. save 5 bucks).. but.. might be able to find crash space.. dunno. [info]rhast is looking into it.

I'll keep folks posted as I know what's going on. I'm trying not to say "I'm not going!" just yet because I'm still too upset to think logically. If those who are wanting to go ([info]omgdontlook and [info]ottom) could let me know what you're willing to do, or what you prefer, I would greatly appreciate it.

Leather Armor for Women

Female Leather Armor:
I was surfing the net today looking for some references for armor and found this site. It's the ONLY online armours who have -functional- leather armor for women. Not to mention the pricing is kinda good. Buying leather armor is gonna be expensive, but this seems real competitive with the other's I've seen today.

Today was a lot of fun. Got out later than I wanted, but that's mostly my fault. Forgot pills, had to stop for gas, got lost, etc. Takes at least two hours to get to the Hard Labor site, mostly because it takes almost a half hour to go over the gravel roads to get to the camp. Gah.

[info]omgdontlook, [info]ottom, [info]bpeace and I all seem to have had a blast. We spent two hours as a bunch of 1ft tall red frogs... and no one wanted to kill us. I've never had that problem before. *boggles* o.0 All in all it was still a ton of fun. My legs are sore but I'm not totally incapacitated like before.

SOLAR Tomorrow

  • Apr. 27th, 2007 at 11:29 AM
Maiden
Yo peeps. Tomorrow is SOLAR and those who were going, so far the plan is to meet at my house between 10am-11am around 11:30, grab some food on the way and then try to get to the part sometime around noon 1:30 (that way we miss the morning lull when it's boring as hell). It IS an hour and a half drive.

FIRST: Read THIS POST in my LJ as it contians all the info you need to know about what to bring, wear, etc.

SECOND: Make sure to read THIS POST about what to expect about monstering. Well, not fully expect, cause it's still different. Mostly just realize you're there to die to PCs and will be spending most your time going to and from Monster Town between lives.

If -anyone- has any questions please just -call- me.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Tom, considering we'll probably be there still for a good 4 hours anyway, we're going to try to sorta wait for him. Be at the house around 11:30 and then we'll me up with him for foodage. I don't know if Hard Labor is like some of the other state parks I know and close their gates at a specific time, therefore making you stuck on site during the night. Either way I think we'll be heading out around/before 8pm if only for food.

Etsy :: Your place to buy and sell all things handmade:
OMFG this place rocks!!! Let's see.. I followed a link to youtube that was debunk, and somehow came across a different vid by the Threadheads. Eventually I found THIS VID and thought I'd check out Etsy's main website. HOLY FUCKING SHIT SOO AWESOME! With the prospect of starting my character in SOLAR coming up, I wanted to see about making my own spellbook (cause if I am right, the 'newbie' spellbook is just a sheet of paper o.0). Was going to check the Etsy site to see if they had any tutorials on book binding when I found this guy's listings. SOO AWESOME! I'm thinking of spending the 7 bucks to get the bookbinding kit for beginners. He says that you can request specific colors and he'll try to put them in your kit.

April SOLAR

For those who are interested:

April 27-29 at the Hard Labor Creek state park.

Current plan is to go down and arrive around noon on SAT to do monstering (for free). Not sure how long we can stay, but probably have to leave sometime before or around dark. Might need to check the park hours.

What to bring:
  • Wear dark clothes you don't mind getting dirty. I suggest black sweats and a black t shirt. If you have black pants suitable for like the ren faire, that could work too.
  • Belt with some kind of pouch attached to it, unless your pants have pockets. As a monster you have to carry around the 'loot' you give players when they kill you.
  • Comfy but STURDY shoes/boots. Preferably of a dark color and not white tennis shoes. Don't wear sandals, flipflops, or any other shoes you could twist an ankle in. As a monster you'll be running around and chasing the players.
  • I suggest taking a waterbottle of some sort. while you can go into the tavern to go get something to drink, you have to walk there and back from monstertown.
  • A WHITE HEADBAND! IF you don't have one, let me know and I'll make you one. It's a PAIN in the ass of you don't have one. You wear a white headband to signal to other players you are OOP (out of play, aka out of character) or else you have to have your weapons or a hand on top your head. Kinda hard to fill a glass of water while you have one hand on top your head.
  • A bit of cash just in case. While I'm kinda planning to eat lunch before getting on site and probably leaving around dinner time, you never know.. might need the cash for both or some other emergency that comes up. Who knows, there could be a storm and we all have to crash there, so might have to pay to stay overnight (just 5 bucks I think).

Also, please read the email I got that explains monstering in detail.

If you are planning on going, please respond to this post and tell me if you plan on riding with me or driving yourself, and also what times are good for you, etc.

UPDATE!! One thing I forgot to mention: If you are planning, or at least interested in going to the May Festival Event then I suggest also bringing the fee for it (think they accept cash, check, Mastercard and visa). If we all pre-reg at the april event, we can then get a cabin together. and from what I can tell, if we don't pre-reg we might not get bunk space at all.

Ok, sent an email to the local SOLAR group and asked for info about monstering. Here is the VERY informative reply I got back(after a first not so informative reply, mostly cause i think they didn't understand the exact nature of the info I was wanting). Any info in (and italic red) are my notes.

This weekend is a SOLAR event down in Indian Springs park. I'm thinking of going down on SAT and doing the freebie monstering to get a feel for things. Still planning on going down in April too.. but thought that there really isn't any reason not to go this weekend too.

For those who are semi interested in playing, if you're thinking of character ideas, I have an awesome idea as to why a big group of people show up at the may event. ^_^ Also, FYI, anyone who goes to the April event can pre-register for the may event and for sure not only that you get a bed, but that we're all together.

[info]tatianamikhail and [info]internetbrain are both seriously thinking of moving down here. I'm almost scared to hope. I really miss the two of them and you all know how horrible I am about keeping in touch with people (I'm the first to admit it!).

In other matters, I'm doing really really good. I've been on the 50mg dosage of Lamictal for a week now and gods I feel NORMAL, well maybe slightly manic, but not overly so. Excited about everything coming up: Ren Faire, SOLAR, seeing my friends, getting the floors done, etc. Since I've pretty much outgrown all my old garb, decided to sew up a new dress. It's a pain in the butt, but it's fun.

BTW, for those interested, I've updated that SOLAR post with better pricing and a bit more info.

Anyway.. back to cutting out fabric...

Know a few people either play/used to play solar. Friend from MS going to be up for the may event. anyone interested in going?

http://www.solarinc.org/clanthiasched.html

may 25-28 starts at 9pm that Friday

hard labor creek, Camp Rutledge state park
, Rutledge, Georgia

Playing and bed - $50
playing without bed - $45
full time monster with bed - $25
full time monster without bed - free or $5 (not sure which)
((prices adapted from the 2006 player's handbook by adding $5 to normal prices))

Update: Just updated the full pricing listing, and more general info.

Playing means you make a character and play it (though i think everyone is required to help out either in the tavern or as a monster at some point during the weekend). Monstering means you go and all you are is a tool for plot to use as a monster. ((See this thread and all replies to it for a ton of info off their general forum)) If you're wanting to give the fighting aspects a try, I've been told by a whole lot of people to first go as a monster a few times to see how you like it. it's a good way to practice as well. They give you everything you need as well, so no worries about having to bring anything. Just go to the main solar page and look at the players handbook PDF file. It's worth a read and not overly long.

My friend tells me there's a lot of tourney's going to be going on, so not sure what to expect really.

----

There is also a normal weekend event gathering on April 27-29 which I'm thinking of just day tripping down to monster at before the one in may. Pricing would be like above but 5 bucks less.
