Looking for a song

Ok. I'm going nuts. I'm trying to find a song I used to really like. It's from circa 1998. All I can remember is the visuals for the music video. It's in like blue sepia tones and starts out with a guy (i think bald) walking towards the camera, then he splits in two and you follow the two different paths he takes. There's a scene in a cafe and one at a bus stop where I think there's this old lady. It aired on at least MTV and I think VH1. It's sorta alternative and has a sound like Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Jars of Clay.

My friend [info]rhast somewhat remembers it, but like me can't place the song at all. Please someone remember what this song is and tell me! It's driving me CRAZY!

The Roof is on Fire

Ok, another bout of insomnia strikes again. While trying to relax, I end up perusing YouTube and one thing leads to another and I'm wanting to find the song "The Roof is on Fire". You know, the one everyone sings at sports games. I remember hearing the original sometime when I was a kid but I never could remember who did it. All I could find was the version by The Blood Hound Gang which, while the lyrics are kinda right, the whole song is a parody. I want the original. Google is virtually no help. All I get are lyrics to the previously mentioned one and to one by Blizzy Bone.

I forgot how, but some how I ended up finding that the original song was actually by "Rockmaster Scott and the Dynamic Three". The lyrics are very different that what the "sports rock" version is however.Read more... )

I did also find a version that sounded much more familiar. It was attributed to Grandmaster Flash, but I'm not sure if that's correct or not.

Pocketful of Sunshine

I think I first heard this song during season 7 of American Idol when she came on stage and performed it. The first thing I was impressed with about her was that, unlike Maria Carey and a few other women who'd been on that season, she was dressed rather conservatively, A lose fitting tan shirt with black slacks. Yes.. full length PANTS. No, I'm not one to really care much about it, but in today's age, if you DON'T dress like a two dollar hooker you are the oddball out. The tune was catchy, then she started singing. Popish with an almost rap sound to it. Other's have tried to sound like it but she really pulls it off because, well, you can understand her. Still manages to sound unique. Then there is the fact that it was.. I dunno.. upbeat and happy, but meaningful at the same time. Did I mention the song was damn -catchy-? It gets stuck in my head all the time. So tonight I hunted it down again and actually started listening to the rest of her music, and just wow. I absolutely love the music video for "Unwritten". So, for now, here are the lyrics for "Pocketful of Sunshine". Maybe I can convince [info]quu to let me buy the album off iTunes (cause I think the music videos are included).

Lyrics: TBITEITB - Smashing Pumpkins

Ok, by now everyone should have seen The Watchmen trailer. If you haven't, you suck.

The song is "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by the Smashing Pumpkins. It's from the Batman and Robin soundtrack, but don't get it confused with "The End is the Beginning is the End" since the lyrics are slightly different as well as the tempo as well as the feel. Quu was able to get it for me and I've been looping it since last night. >_>;; Listening to it, I've always caught a few lyrics here and there, but not everything. So, after having just pulled it up.. holy cow! Get a load of this: Read more... )

Pandora Radio

When I finally managed to get my new iphone, the first thing [info]tatianamik & [info]internetbrain say is "You have to get Pandora Radio". At first I'm wondering why on earth would I want an internet radio station on my phone when I can use my entire iTunes Library at last.. but then [info]rhast piped in and said I needed to check it out so I caved. So will you when you hear about all of this.

One of the difficult parts for me was having to wrap my head around what Pandora actually is. It really is like flipping through radio stations. Each 'station' will have themes, similarities, etc. How it obtains those 'seeds' are up to you. For better explanation, I'm going to take you through the process of getting setup. It's how my mind works, so bare with me.

There are a lot more options and tons more information in the FAQ. I strongly suggest going through it sometime.

My only real wish is that I'd be able to listen to Pandora on my iphone in the background. But that's not Pandora's fault, that's an Apple decision.

Please please please see the updated version of the tutorial on my wordpress blog:

http://lethann.wordpress.com/2009/01/22/update-howto-make-your-own-custom-ringtones-for-iphone-20-3g/

Replacing this with the better writeup I had over on my Wordpress blog.

Yesterday I purchased my new 16gig iphone and was very happy to wave goodbye to my old Treo 650 which had lived long beyond it’s mileage. It wasn’t until late last night when I was playing around with my custom settings that I found out I couldn’t add my own custom ringtones. My friend informed me that Apple had set it up that you had to pay double through the itunes store in order to get them which greatly upset me.

This morning I decided to do a bit of research. My friend linked me a nice program that did all the snipping and importing of the songs for you, but it was a paid program with only a small taste test of what you could do. This was not pleasing to me. I am a music and ringtone junky. I love to have my friends each have their own ringtone so I know who’s calling with out even looking.

Unable to find anywhere that explained a simple way to do your own ringtones without paying for it, I tried multiple ways to get the ringtone into itunes, all without success. Finally broke down and tried the paid software demo. My hunch paid off and I found out what I needed.

1) Pick out your Source – I’ve got a pretty extensive library, but I want to make sure that the song is loud enough to jar my attention when it’s ringing, as well as clear enough to make out.

2) Edit your clip – Most songs start out soft or have a blank second or so in the front. That is not good for a ringtone. Most of my ringtones are around 20 seconds long, but I think you can go longer. Since I’m a PC person, I just use the free Wavepad from NCH Software.

3) Save your clip in M4A format – Most audio editors should be able to do this, or you can use a file converter. Switch from NCH Software is perfect if you need to do bulk conversions. There are also multiple online file converters. A good list is over on MakeUseOf.

4) Change extension to M4R – I just open up the folder I saved my ringtones to and edit it straight in the OS. Don’t worry about any warnings you get about it being possibly unusable.

5) Drag the M4R into iTunes – M4R is a useable format for iTunes so all you have to do is drag it into iTunes and it will add it to the Ringtones library. I’ve read before that it’s a good idea to add only one ringtone at a time or you might get multiples of the same ringtone rather than all of your different ones.

6) Sync your iPhone – You can now choose the custom ringtone from your list. Your overall ringtone is in the Settings/Sounds menu. If you edit your contacts directly you can assign custom ringtones for each one.

Yes folks, it’s as simple as that. As far as I know this should work for both PC and MAC users. I don’t think there is a limit on how many or how large your ringtones can be, but I’m not exactly sure so be careful with your experiments. Remember that your phone rolls over to voicemail after a certain time period so it’s pointless to make anything longer than that. Typically shorter ones will loop, but I haven’t tried it out myself just yet.

Enjoy!

---

UPDATE: After adding my other ringtones, the iphone itself is limited to carrying only 10 ringtones at once. Sad Leth. If someone finds out differently without jailbreaking their phone, please comment and let me know.

FLEET FOXES - WHITE WINTER HYMNAL LYRICS:
I was following the

I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries
in the summertime

I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries

with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall

Ok, my earlier voice post was about this kid, Andrew Johnston (age 13). I listened to this and just.. I get tears and chills watching this. Truly has the voice of an angel. I hope very much so that the competition will help his self esteem and show him just what a wonderful talent he has.

AND.. while watching this, I find out about this girl: Connie Talbot (age 6). She's good too, but I think Andrew blows everyone out of the water.

Libra | DVD, Book, Audio CD, Game library organizer software:
My friend [info]tatianamik shared this with me. It's a free software that keeps track of your library, very much like the delicious library software for mac. The awesome thing is that it uses your webcam, if you have one, to scan the barcodes. Even better, it's not just books. The different choices you have are: Books, DVDs, Music, Games. The only problem I've had has been with paperbacks, you need to scan the EAU barcode on the inside cover; the sandman hardbacks, it just wouldn't find the EAU, had to type in the ISBN manually; and a few foreign language books and movies we have.Rule of thumb is, if it's listed on Amazon, it should find it. Not only have I done all my xbox/ps2 games, but it even reads the barcodes on PC games. Haven't tried the board games but i'm sure those will work too. Doesn't have a barcode? Pull up amazon, do a search, and then use the inhouse amazon code to get the info in Libra. There has only been like two things I've had to manually type in entirely. You can tag things, add additional information (like where you actually keep it), and even have things 'checked out' if someone borrows something.

Yes, the band players had fun, but you know for a fact that their band leader and chorographer are the real gamer geeks.

Pong
Tetris
Mortal Combat
Contra??
Smash Borther's Melee - but could be pokimon
Zelda
Super Mario Brothers (four themes)

Going to try to get out of the house today. My leg's are stiff but not that bad. It's the blisters that really hurt. had to re-lance them. Gah..

"Scotty Doesn't Know"

Happy
Ok.. [info]ottom brought over Euro Trip and we watched it. God it's a funny movie... but check this out: probably the best thing about the movie is the "theme song" which is called "Scotty Doesn't Know". I found out that the guy who plays "Donny", the "singer", was played by Matt Damon (I KNEW he looked familar, but with his hair short and all the pericings I just couldn't believe it).

For those fans of the movie, the song (both original and techno remix) are on the Soundtrack. (I also found the video on the DVD.) Unfortunatly most of the really cool songs don't appear to be on the CD. All in all it still looks to be worth buying... and if you haven't seen the movie yet, GET IT! ^_^
