Ok, by now everyone should have seen The Watchmen trailer. If you haven't, you suck.

The song is "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by the Smashing Pumpkins. It's from the Batman and Robin soundtrack, but don't get it confused with "The End is the Beginning is the End" since the lyrics are slightly different as well as the tempo as well as the feel. Quu was able to get it for me and I've been looping it since last night. >_>;; Listening to it, I've always caught a few lyrics here and there, but not everything. So, after having just pulled it up.. holy cow! Get a load of this: Read more... )

Nerdgasm: Watchmen Trailer Hits Web a Day Early:
The trailer is due to hit the web tomorrow, but Empire put it up early by accident before quickly pulling it down. Not quickly enough! So, what say you?

Yes... I'm sure you all can hear my screams of joy from wherever you are, probably still echoing through the ethernet along with all the other screams of joy from the geeks in the world. BTW, if you haven't read this comic yet, feel free to come over and read it. I'll only loan it out after I've finished reading it again myself. Yes, most of the costumes have been updated and modernized, but to me that only adds to it. The only one that looks -drasticly- different is Ozymandias, but [info]quu says it has gold trim on it. Dunno. Looks cool just hope it stays with the whole 'goldenboy' image he's supposed to have.

Anyway, what are you doing still reading this?!? GO WATCH IT NOW!!!!!!!!

Libra | DVD, Book, Audio CD, Game library organizer software:
My friend [info]tatianamik shared this with me. It's a free software that keeps track of your library, very much like the delicious library software for mac. The awesome thing is that it uses your webcam, if you have one, to scan the barcodes. Even better, it's not just books. The different choices you have are: Books, DVDs, Music, Games. The only problem I've had has been with paperbacks, you need to scan the EAU barcode on the inside cover; the sandman hardbacks, it just wouldn't find the EAU, had to type in the ISBN manually; and a few foreign language books and movies we have.Rule of thumb is, if it's listed on Amazon, it should find it. Not only have I done all my xbox/ps2 games, but it even reads the barcodes on PC games. Haven't tried the board games but i'm sure those will work too. Doesn't have a barcode? Pull up amazon, do a search, and then use the inhouse amazon code to get the info in Libra. There has only been like two things I've had to manually type in entirely. You can tag things, add additional information (like where you actually keep it), and even have things 'checked out' if someone borrows something.

**UPDATE** Everything has been guessed, answers are complete.
Ok. I'm jumping on this bandwagon too. Some are easy, one i doubt -anyone- will get. Stolen from [info]ottom, [info]bpeace, and others.

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies. (Note...not my absolute favorite movies, just favorites I can think of right now.)
2. Go to IMDb (or Wikiquote, my personal favorite!) and find a quote from each movie. (or in some cases, just remember them.)
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it correctly and the name of the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb/Wikiquote search functions

300 (Non-Spoiler)

Rage, Agressive, PissedOff
Just got back from seeing 300.

Wow.. just wow.

When you see it, just don't set yourself up as stupid and think it's a historical film. It's a Myth.. a story.. being told by a biased storyteller. Just as the myths of ancient Greece probably have kernels of truth, it's embellished. Soo nice.

If the damn cinematographer doesn't get a fucking award for this, I've lost all hope in the award system. My favorite part was the 'stop motion' fight sequence where the King hits just about every traditional Spartan fighting pose that's been drawn on Greek pottery.

Have a few 'ticks' about it.. but they can easily be glossed over. (Like, there was never any 'council' in Sparta.)

[info]ottom mentioned some History Channel movie about the real Spartans, anyone got a copy of it?

Review: The Fountain

[info]quu and I just got back from watching The Fountain. Amazing movie, but not for everyone. To put it one way, both Quu and I walked out of the theater bawling our eyes out. [info]ottom can confirm this if you don't believe me. It's very artistic, but not overly so. The story is well written and flows smoothly. While it jumps around in the storylines, it's never confusing. Imagery is fantastic and moving. This is one I'll buy when it comes out on DVD.

One more thing... I want the soundtrack. The music is just amazing.

Non-Spoiler Review:

Fucking Awesome! Yes, James Bond is blonde.... get over it, I did. It -WAS- something I was not happy about when I first heard he was going to play the part. I'd seen him in Tomb Raider, liked him, but seriously doubted he could do it. Well, let me tell you... the -ONLY- bond who's better than Daniel Craig is Sean Connery, but in a very different way. Sean Connery's Bond was an estiblished vet in the business. He'd been doing espionge for years. Daniel Craig's Bond, on the other hand, is just out of Special Ops. Picture a Navy Seal suddenly thrown into a tux and told to go get the bad guys. He's not bad, but he's still used to just going and killing things. But you see his mind working, see the shadows of who he will become. You learn about Bond's character, why he is the way he is, the orgins of his infamous Vespa Martini and why he's such a hardass about it.  The biggest reason why I recommend this movie to everyone: it's taken seriously. No camp! Yes there are gadgets, but they arn't over the top, nor are they center stage. Bond is who the movie is about, and that's how it should be. The banter is witty without being over the top. Excellent acting, excellent directing. Just a great movie all over!

Good, if busy, day

  • Oct. 24th, 2006 at 3:46 AM
computer, work
Slept in as late as I could. Even mom slept in. Got up and into the doctors office right on time, and suprisingly not very tired. Had to wait a while but the appointment went well. This was with her general practioner over her spiking blood pressure. We -think- it might be a side effect of the darviset. At the doctor's office it was 130-something over 80?. We then left, went to IHOP for "breakfast for lunch" and she took two of her pain pills so they would kick in before her therapy session. By the time she got to the physial therapist, it had spiked back up to 140-something over 90-something. The only difference was food, and her pain pills had kicked in.

Her general practionier has put her on a diaretic and told her to get a blood pressure monitor (got a good one at wal-mart for $45, which was ranked 3rd in a consumers report article, and rated the best for your money) to keep track of it while she's at home. She doesn't go back to see him for another 6 weeks

Anyway, dropped mom off at Physical Therapy then ran over to our hair stylist (who we've known for probably 10 years) and got my hair trimmed. Gods it feels SOOO much better!! By the time I was done, mom was just getting out of PT and then we walked down to get her blood checked (a 'protime'? that is used to monitor people on blood thinners). From there, went across the street to her bone specalist. We were almost an hour early so it was a long wait. Then he was half an hour late to get to us because they were really backed up. He had just gotten back from a week long vacation, and anyone who's been away from work for a while knows what it's like trying to get back into the swing of things. Cool thing was that they took an x-ray of her knee, and we got to see it. Rather than replacing the whole joint, what they did was put a metal cap on the end of the thigh and calf bone, then have plastic spacers to act as the cartalige. One thing he said was that mom's knee was one of the worst he had seen, if not -the- worst. She had absolutly -NO- cartalidge left in her knee. I'm amazed she was even walking at all.

Anyway, he checked her out and said she was doing great. Range of motion is excellent and her pain is next to nothing, if not nothing most the time. Told her she can probably drive in two weeks, as long as the physical therapist says it's ok. It's mostly a safty issue.. having to be sure that her reaction time and muscle strength can cope in an emergency situation. Need to be able to slam on those breaks if you need to. So that cheered up mom quite a bit. She also walked around the exam room with out a walker or crutch or cane. Sorta hobbled, but mostly the limping is just in her head, or so she says. No pain, no weakness. Mostly the thinking "my knee is hurt and I shouldn't put weight on it." We finally got out of there after he said she was doing AOK. she goes back to see him in a month or so.

From there we went to get an early dinner. Weird eating dinner at 5pm but we were both starved. IHOP just doesn't last long on your stomach. Mom had a craving for fish, so we went down to Long John Silver's, somewhere neither one of us has been in YEARS. It was good. Really -love- their battered chicken.

Next went to wal-greens and dropped off her perscription, then took mom home. Got her settled in before running a few errands. Returned "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" to Blockbuster and checked out "Unbreakable". I had told mom about it before, but she's forgotten and never checked it out. She's just blow away (as was I) by the fact that anyone would ever make a movie about (sorta) OI (Oesteogenius Imperfecta, the brittle bone desase that Samuel L Jackson's character has). For those who don't know, my mom has type I, the mildest type. To set the record straight, Elijah (the character) did NOT have type I. He had Type II, which is the more sevear type that anyone can live through. Type III are lucky to make it past the age of ten, most dying within the first few years. Type IV usually don't live past birth, most being stillborn because the pressure of the womb crushes their bones before they are even born. Another thing.. those with OI have blue scalaria. Meaning, the whites of their eyes are a bluish color. My mom has the most unique and beautiful eyes i've ever seen. The OI coloring has blead into her iris's, her eyes already being that georgious multi-colored hazel, and are now -ringed- with various colors. It's simply amazing. Type I OI is something that most generally grow out of at purbity. You still have lower bone density, but you just are less likely to break any bones. However, when you DO break them, it's pretty bad. My mom fell on our cement sidewalk and literally -shattered- her writst. Doctors didn't think she'd ever recover any sort of movement out of it again. Now, aside from a bit of a weird thing when she holds her hand a certain way (mostly noticable when she hugs someone), she has full movement. To this day my thinking is that because her bones ARE so brittle and spongelike, they were able to heal faster/better than someone with denser bones.

Anyway, I ramble...

From there went to wal-mart to pick up a few things, mostly the blood pressure monitor. Also got this new color of lipstick that looks FABILOUS. The other color I have is too bright.. too red.. too bold. Got a more brown/plumish color that is barely noticable but just helps with the overall effect. I've really fallen in love with the Revelon Colorstay line. That shit really works. Goes on and STAYS on. Just have to be careful about rolling your lips if the clear conditioner/gloss has worn off. It can start to peel. The old color I had was "Stay Current", which is really nice, but as I said.. too bold. Still great for more dressy occasions, but not everyday wear. The new color I got was "Endless Spice". Really REALLY like it. Barely notice it and just looks perfect.

Checkout, then off to Walgreens I go. Picked up mom's meds and a lipliner to match my lipstick (walmart was out), dropped off some old banana's to Mary (she makes awesome banana bread), then back home.

Did a few things around the house, laundry, etc. Then watched Unbreakable. Mom loved it. Totally didn't see the twist at the end, in fact she was sorta confused as the movie was going along, but that twist ending just brought all the pieces together and BAM! Still a great movie!

Then came CSI:Miami, which I unfortunatly got interrupted in and missed a bit towards the end, but other than that, was great! Loved it!

More laundry, put mom to bed, and here I am. Been typing this entry for about an hour.

Now.. I sleep.

Night!

"He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven"

This is the poem that Sean Bean quotes in Equilibrium:

He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread upon my dreams.

"National Treasure" Review

  • Aug. 12th, 2005 at 4:55 AM
Writing
Ok.. Ever since it came out, something about the movie "National Treasure" really appealed to me. Maybe cause it looked like a fun adventure movie that didn't involve sex and gore. A lot of people may not have liked it, but I REALLY enjoyed it.

Benjamen Franklen Gates is the decendant of a lone stable boy whom was intrusted with a secret by Charles Carrol, last surviving signer of the Decleration of Independance. This secret was about Treasure of the Knights Templar, "The secret lies with Charlott". The Gates family had dedicated themselves to finding the secretes and uncovering the treasure. Six generations have spent their lives trying to find it, all to no avil. Now Ben has finally uncovered the "Charlott" and has set his feet upon the path laid down by the freemasons over 200 years ago. The problem is, the next clue is on the Decleration of Indpendance itself. Then his business partner Ian has sudden revield his true colors and is set to recover the treasure for himself, not letting anyone come between him and getting what he wants. Now Ben and his friend Riely are on a race to get to the clues first, and saving the Decleration in the process.

Who cares if the movie has NO plausability at all. It's fun to watch and enjoyable. Always trying to find out what the clues mean and where they will go. The characters are loveable and actually don't even fit into the typical sterotypes. I love Riely. Another thing I love is that Ben is looking for the treasure not for the "money" but simply to just find it. To prove that it exists. It's refreshing, even after a few things in Indiana Jones, it's even more prominent here.

All in all I strongly suggest that you go and watch it.

let it take you back and forth

I don't know why, but I"m in a good mood right now. Something about this song I guess... it's catchy and just makes me wanna pump up the volume and dance.

Right now, reiaino, terribleangel, and ottom are watching Office Space. Quu had a bad day at work, and it's jsut the thing for him. he hasn't seen it before. I love the movie, but right now I just got this song on repeat and love it soo much. Subtitles are great. ^^

River has been hyper-genki more than normal today. But a few times she was a lap puppy and soo cute.
