The Roof is on Fire

Ok, another bout of insomnia strikes again. While trying to relax, I end up perusing YouTube and one thing leads to another and I'm wanting to find the song "The Roof is on Fire". You know, the one everyone sings at sports games. I remember hearing the original sometime when I was a kid but I never could remember who did it. All I could find was the version by The Blood Hound Gang which, while the lyrics are kinda right, the whole song is a parody. I want the original. Google is virtually no help. All I get are lyrics to the previously mentioned one and to one by Blizzy Bone.

I forgot how, but some how I ended up finding that the original song was actually by "Rockmaster Scott and the Dynamic Three". The lyrics are very different that what the "sports rock" version is however.Read more... )

I did also find a version that sounded much more familiar. It was attributed to Grandmaster Flash, but I'm not sure if that's correct or not.

Pocketful of Sunshine

I think I first heard this song during season 7 of American Idol when she came on stage and performed it. The first thing I was impressed with about her was that, unlike Maria Carey and a few other women who'd been on that season, she was dressed rather conservatively, A lose fitting tan shirt with black slacks. Yes.. full length PANTS. No, I'm not one to really care much about it, but in today's age, if you DON'T dress like a two dollar hooker you are the oddball out. The tune was catchy, then she started singing. Popish with an almost rap sound to it. Other's have tried to sound like it but she really pulls it off because, well, you can understand her. Still manages to sound unique. Then there is the fact that it was.. I dunno.. upbeat and happy, but meaningful at the same time. Did I mention the song was damn -catchy-? It gets stuck in my head all the time. So tonight I hunted it down again and actually started listening to the rest of her music, and just wow. I absolutely love the music video for "Unwritten". So, for now, here are the lyrics for "Pocketful of Sunshine". Maybe I can convince [info]quu to let me buy the album off iTunes (cause I think the music videos are included).

Ok, by now everyone should have seen The Watchmen trailer. If you haven't, you suck.

The song is "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by the Smashing Pumpkins. It's from the Batman and Robin soundtrack, but don't get it confused with "The End is the Beginning is the End" since the lyrics are slightly different as well as the tempo as well as the feel. Quu was able to get it for me and I've been looping it since last night. >_>;; Listening to it, I've always caught a few lyrics here and there, but not everything. So, after having just pulled it up.. holy cow! Get a load of this: Read more... )

FLEET FOXES - WHITE WINTER HYMNAL LYRICS:
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the
I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries
in the summertime

I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries
in the summertime

I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries
in the summertime

I love this song. Very little I've heard from DJ Encore is unlikeable. Have to post this here because [info]quu has been too busy to get the new wiki on the server done yet and my old one can't be edited for some odd reason.

Prayer - Hayley Westenra

Cry
This is the main song for the Wii game "Endless Ocean".

Let your arms enfold us
Through the dark of night
Will your angels hold us
Till we see the light

Hush, lay down your troubled mind
The day has vanished and left us behind
And the wind - whispering soft lullabies
Will soothe - so close your weary eyes

Let your arms enfold us
Through the dark of night
Will your angels hold us
Till we see the light

Sleep, angels will watch over you
And soon beautiful dreams will come true
Can you feel spirits embracing your soul
So dream while secrets of darkness unfold

Let your arms enfold us
Through the dark of night
Will your angels hold us
Till we see the light

Let your arms enfold us
Through the dark of night
Will your angels hold us
Till we see the light

Everybody's Free..

While I was taking a shower all those complicated and random thoughts that everyone has in the shower were running through my head. Along my line of thinking I stumbled upon the phrase: "Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum", from the song "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" which I knew was based off a commencement speech. I then remembered how recently I was perusing the web and saw someone falsely attribute lines from the speech to Baz Luhrmann. It's irked me to no end to see things like that happen. I couldn't remember exactly where it was from as I had two different stories. One I had heard, and strongly suspected was true, was that it was written by a woman columnist at the Chicago Tribune. The other was that it was the commencement speech by some congressman (yea, I never heard the Kurt Vonnegut rumor).

Being the curious one I am, I just had to go look it up.

Wikipedia to the rescue!
Wear Sunscreen or Sunscreen Speech [1] are the common names of an essay actually called "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997.

The most popular and well-known form of the essay is the successful music single released in 1999, accredited to Baz Luhrmann.

The wikipedia article goes on to tell the history of the article including the rumor about it being attributed to Kurt Vonnegut's commenment speech at MIT as well as how Baz Luhrmann got the idea to use the speech in one of his songs. You can read the original article on the website for the Chicago Tribune.

For my own records, I'm gonna post the entire thing here as well. Read more... )

Do Your Ears Hang Low?!!

Music
The other night, Quu and I were snuggling and playing with River when I grabbed her ears and started singing this song.Of course, I couldn't remember the next to the last line of the first verse... But.. the BIG surprise, which should't have been a surprise at all, was that Quu claims to never have heard this song before!!

So now I present to you the full Lyrics! ((Snagged from ScoutSongs.com))

Do Your Ears Hang Low?
Do They Wobble to and Fro?
Can You Tie Them in a Knot?
Can You Tie Them in a Bow?
Can You Throw Them Over Your Shoulder Like a Continental Soldier?
Do Your Ears Hang Low?

Do Your Ears Hang High?
Do They Reach Up to the Sky?
Do The Droop When They're Wet?
Do They Stiffen When They're Dry?
Can You Semaphore Your Neighbor with a Minimum of Labor?
Do Your Ears Hang High?

Do Your Ears Hang Wide?
Do They Flap From Side to Side?
Do They Wave in the Breeze?
From the Slightest Little Sneeze?
Can You Soar Above the Nation with a Feeling of Elation?
Do Your Ears Hang Wide?

Do Your Ears Fall Off?
When You Give a Great Big Cough?
Do They Lie There on the Ground?
Or Bounce Up at Every Sound?
Can You Stick Them in Your Pocket Just Like Little Davy Crockett?
Do Your Ears Fall Off?

Shadowcon Ahoy!

  • Jan. 6th, 2006 at 10:05 AM
Sorry
Yes.. I never post anymore. I've been.. in an anti-writing period yet again. Depression at it's best!! *har har.. sigh* -_-;;

Now that the hell that is xmas is over, I feel like things are finally starting to get better yet again. I feel better, my friends are all pulling themselves outta the holiday blues, and today Quu and I leave for Shadowcon. I'm hoping that seeing the old crew will cheer me up, espeically [info]synamontwist. I just wish that [info]rhast could drag his wife up and see us before we come back home.

I've been slowly taking all my music lyrics and gathering them up on my Wiki.

I just don't have much to say lately. I need to buy my plane tickets for May. For those who don't know, my sister is having another surgery, this time it's MAJOR... and I'm going up there this time to take care of her for a month. The kiddies will be going to Craig's parents for the month, so that takes a bit weight off my shoulders, but now i'm left with facing taking care of someone who won't even be able to take a shower, bathe, or go to the bathroom on their own. Needless to say, i'm scared shitless... of both the physical toil, but moreso the emotional.

Anyway.. time to go swap out laundry.

This song is the opening theme from House MD. Absolutely amazing. There is a remix of it with the Dead Can Dance song "Persian Love Song" called "Persian Teardrop" which is just amazing. So far I've been unable to obtain the original "Teardrop" though. Read more... )
