For those who asked: Fizzy Fruit

It is real fruit pieces that are infused with carbonization so when you open and consume them they 'fizzle'. Marketed mostly towards kids to try and help them eat more fruit. I saw it on the Food Network show "Unwrapped" and was curious enough to try and dig up where it's sold. So far all I can find out is "the southeast and southwest" and "select walmart and 7-eleven's".

Indiana girl swallows magnets, needs surgery
Updated: May 23, 2008 05:44 PM
This story angers me, but not for the obvious reasons.

I actually saw this first on a news clip over on Comcast.net's "The Fan". First I was concerned as to how a child could knowingly consume THIRTY magnets. One of the first questions the news anchor asked was "Why did you eat them?" The girl's reply? "I thought they were candy." That stopped me right there. My first thought is "Magnets taste like METAL. Maybe these were plastic colored pieces, shaped weird and can be mistaken like candy." Then they show the magnet toys. They look like ball-bearings. Yes, they vaguely look like those small hard sugar candy balls you sometimes see on cupcakes at Christmas-time, but these things are about as big as a nickel (or larger, the pictures are kinda hard to judge the size), and are obviously metal. I've tasted magnets before, and they don't taste anything like candy. Metal doesn't taste good at all.

So the the girl's adopted (I assume) father continued to talk and my irritation continues to rise. I couldn't finish it, so I went searching for a print news article and found the one above. My irritation rose as I read the article, not for what it really said, but how it was stated. It insinuates the blame falls with the toy, but if you read between the lines, this orphanage even told the family that this girl has problems:
"She's only been in America three years and while she was in Russia, which is where she is from, in the orphanage she ate, they told us she ate everything she could get her hands on," said Lents.
Now, knowing this, why did the father give her a toy composed of small, easily swallowed pieces? My niece is somewhat the same, she will put just about ANYTHING in her mouth. We keep this in mind and don't buy her things she could possibly eat.

At the end of the article I see the words I was expecting to see and I nearly see red: But Haley's father wants the toy off the market for good.

Oh for the love of god, accept some responsibility! It is the parent's responsibility to make sure the child knows that it is a toy. Be there when they open the package, tell them what it is, get down and maybe even play with them and show them how it works. TELL THEM NOT TO EAT IT. The sheer fact that she claims she thought it was candy tells you that her parents didn't tell her it was a toy. More likely than not they gave it to her and went about their business. And if the child DOES eat it even after you tell them not to, don't blame the toy, blame the child. I'm sorry but most eight year olds know not to eat their toys.

Seeing things like this just angers me to no end. Bad parenting is what this is, nothing more. Now an innocent toy is being blamed for it. I'm tempted to go buy a set of this just out of spite...

..ok.. it looks fun to play with too... >_>

I had a dream this morning about me being back in Girl Scout camp. It occurred to me in my sleep fogged mind after waking up that one of the things i could do to keep myself occupied was to possibly volunteer with the Girl Scouts. Used to love it and was so disappointed when I couldn't go from a Junior to a full Girl Scout (not enough in my area at the time). Maybe someone else out there might be interested in it as well.

POOPY IN THE POTTY!!!!

NO POOPY IN THE TUB!!!

[Posted with hblogger 2.0 http://www.normsoft.com/hblogger/]

Explanation:

The kids have a bowel movement at precisely 8pm every night. Dinner usually finishes up by 7:30pm and then I draw the bath and move usually alaina straight from her booster seat to the bath. Sooo much easier this way. NORMALLY she will call someone when she has to go potty so she doesn't poop in the tub... however, for like the past three weeks, she HASN'T! She'll sit there in the bath and just poop! Last Saturday night was bath night and it wasn't just an "oops" type leakage.. it was a FULL POOPY! I was pissed to no end, so i emptied the tub, rinsed it out, soaked everything in bleach water (btw I'm allergic to bleach), drained, rinsed again, then stood Alaina in the tub and hosed her down. She, needless to say, did NOT enjoy that. I then put her to bed early and was POed for the rest of the night.

This bath night (Monday), I wasn't going to let her get in the tub till AFTER she went poopy. But she wanted in and was fussing. Finally I just gave her the third degree: "NO POOPY IN THE TUB! If you have to go poopy you CALL someone and go poopy in the potty!" Also stopped in and asked almost every 2 mins or so "do you need to go potty?"

Then.. PRECISELY at 8pm.. we hear "I need to go potty." To which i bolt into the bathroom and plunk her down on the potty. Was SOOOOO happy. Wiped her butt (another gross thing about parenthood people neglect to tell you about) then let her get back in the tub. Sooo happy!

Lonely, Flirt

Summer is finally here. Sun is out, heat is up, and the pool is warm. (not that i get togo in [no suit])

Went to church this morning.. lots of memorial day rememberances that brought tears to my eyes. I feel ashamed when I remember as a kid that I would grumble when my parents made me stand as the veterains in the paraids would pass. Those silly childish thoughts of "it's just a bunch of old men.. i'm tired and this is borning" swimming in my brain. Now... now that I'm an adult and realize the price of our freedoms and those who are willing to make the sacrface (since my mentality just won't allow me to) I would make those around me respect them as well.

*sighs*

I think I either have a grain of sand in my eye, or an eye infection. the lower part of my lid is very tender.. but not visably swollen. I can -FEEL- the soreness just sitting here.. I'll keep an 'eye' on it to see if any discharge starts up or if it get's puffy. Might ask dawn if she has any visine floating around here.

I miss Pat terribly. Just want to go home. Love these kids but they are getting on my last nerve.

managed to catch a nap today, and mom is here again so I hope that I'll be good to go.

Laid out in the sun after putting some spf 15 on. Hopefully laying out in the sun will help clear up my skin.. especially my back. I hate my skin.

BTW, if anyone has something made of microfiber.. to get stains out.. get a Neutrogena Bar Soap, lather up a damp wash cloth, wipe gently in one direction repeatedly until stain is gone. Use clean damp cloth to clean up the soap and prevent rings. Then use a clean DRY cloth to blot dry.

-_-;;;

I'm just getting tired, drained, exhausted.

Love these kids, but they are getting to me. Tonight, at Wal-Mart, Alaina darted into an asile to look at the lava lamps (something i can't blame her for) but craig and kyle were heading off so I had to get her to move. She wouldn't, so i had to take her by the arm. No.. not roughly, but I was telling her we needed to move. She of course let's her legs go to fall to the floor to start crying because she can't get what she wants, so I have to pick her up. She's pissed off, and clocks me upside the head.. right where my jaw hinges to my skull near my cheekbone. For the first time in my life I think I saw stars. I nearly dropped her. I don't know where these kids get the "I want, I want!" from.. their parents don't really give into it.. or maybe they do.

When the kids were younger.. when they were expressing what they wanted, I don't think they re-enforced that it was ASKING rather than demanding. How to put this.. Click here for some parenting ranting )

*scratches head* I just don't get it.. I feel even more odd for, while i was growing up, I coudl go to the toy section, look at stuff, tell my mom, "Hey this is cool, I'd like to have it." but not do the whole "I want" tantrum. Heck.. i rememeber going through the store with my perternal grandmother and I'd just point out nifty stuff.. she'd then want to buy it for me and I'd have to tell her NO, i don't want it.. it just looks cool.

*sighs* was I the ONLY one like this?!?! Maybe being the third child and having a lot of handme downs and stuff taught me this.. i dunno... or maybe it's just innate in my personality...

Anyway.. I need to sleep.

Peanut Butter Play Dough

Yes.. you heard me right.. Play Dough.. made from peanut butter..

specifically.. equal parts creamy peanut butter and corn starch. Just mix it thourghly.

Stuff is clean, smells good, tastes good.. and is fun!

it even responds to your body heat and melts slightly.

I made a tablespoon full (half a tbsp peanutbutter and half corn starch) and it made a nice sized ball. ZOMG! I can't decide if i want to play with it or just eat it. >_<;;;;;

Lost
live from Columbia City, IN

it.. is odd. my allergies just NEVER bother me down home. yet I come up here and last night my allergies kick in. Itchie watery eyes and nose.sneezing too. used to think it was the cats but now I'm not so sure. I'm beginning to think that there is something that grows up here that I'm allergic too, and it doesn't grow south of the mason-dixon line. no clue what it could be since I do think ragweed also grows down south.

Anyway, Dawn says we are going to putt-putt today. hope the kids behavie well. like all kids they have their good times and bad. doesn't help that they know they will be at grandma and grandpa's for a 'very long time'.

mornings are so cold lately!!! hate it. I wanna come home where I can stay in my warm blankets all day.

miss [info]quu and river sooo much. quu said one of my strawberries ripened and he ate it. so jealous! glad it was good though. apparently he and [info]ottom went out and saw a movie. how was it?

Craig went to the store, as their wireless router has crapped out. it doesn't broadcast the wireless and then peridoically stops net access. then have to unplug AND go to the setup page to resave settings before it will give us net access again. I've already updated the firmware from linksys (its a wireless-b router) but that didn't help at all.

anyway.. cold..going to go hunt down a sweater.

sick

  • Apr. 4th, 2005 at 9:48 AM
Morning, Blerg
looks like i'm getting sick.

Alaina woke up at like 630am and while i was chaning her diper (no poop thank god) i nearly threw up. about 5 mins ago the aches in my joins settled in and it's looking like i might have a low grade temp. thermomiter said i was only 97.? , but i've got the chills, my extremities are freezing, yet my head neck and torso are burning up to my touch. Fortunatly kyle went into daycare and dawn is home from work today so let's just pray this is over by tonight, or at least tomorrow morning.

i just hope against hope that i didn't catch whatever alaina has...

Morning, Blerg
I should have posted before now but it's been a hellish day. Alaina's diarrah isn't watery much anymore, but like peasoup that smells worse than a stopped up garbage disposal (and I've already delt with that smell this trip). the whole house smells like crap. i honestly don'tknow how i'mgoing to keep going. my temper is starting to flare and i'm so tired it's not funny.

dawn is doing very ok. she can eat pretty much fine now, though she gets tired easily and needs to rest a lot.

i just wanna go home....

tonight i have the kids' monitors.let's hope i can sleep and that they sleep through the rest of the night.

Alaina isn't doing good, she's been thowing up again today, not consistant though, so i don't know what it is. we've noticed small red spots on her lips. maybe it's due to the virus taht's causing her problems, or who knows. if anyone knows of a child dises that results in vomiting and really bad, watery diharrah, please let me know.

Today was good, though Quu has gone back home. It feels liek a week since he left, rather than this early afternoon. *crys*

BTW, I accidently left my cell in my mom's car, so don't call it unless you do't mine me getting the message a week later.

next weekend they move in the new house. let's hope everyting goes smoothly.

miss everyone and want to comehome.
