Sleepless Dreams #4

  • Dec. 3rd, 2006 at 11:10 AM
Morning, Blerg
There in the distance, circling high above, they wait patiently for her. Their cries echoing down, calling to her. Stretching out her wings, she catches the updraft and rises swiftly towards the growing specks. She never looks down, only up. Her blood pounds through her veins as she streaks up past the birds, breaking into a small dive to glide amongst them. The squwalks sound more like laughter, each hovering effortlessly so high above the water. As one, they all turn and head towards the shore, each feathered friend lining up off her wingtips. Someone off to her left cries out and all eyes focus on the blue surface far below them. She smiles. Five pairs of wings fold and the dive begins. Exileration, not fear, fills her thoughts as the ocean rushes up to meet them, the wind howling in her ears. Wings unfurl at the last possible moment, claws reaching out to catch a meal while fingers trail along the water.

Her friends veer off towards the shore, clutching their prizes jealously. She waves goodbye and continues on, past the beaches and towards the treeline.

Sleepless Dreams - NaNo #3

Dark Angel
((Yea, will never make the deadline, but I'm writing these for me anyway. Will continue till I see fit just will drop the NaNo tag after the end of Nov.))

Out in the open sea, the song still called to her, beckoning her to a dance that needed no feet. She saw them down in the depths, the warm water pressing all around her body. The smile was her answer as she darted between them, their massive bodies seeming slow but powerful through the waters. Their song filled her senses, her hands reaching out to glide along their hides as she swam around them. The child came up, it's whale song different from it's parents, joining her in their own private dance of joy and freedom.  From the depths they ever rose, her laugher joining their song. She and the small one swirled, darted and continued to rise.

Eyes turned upwards, filled with their song as she rushed towards the surface. A beckoning, arms outstretched. As one being they breeched the surface, their sprays creating a fine mist as she spread her wings and flew up into the sky.

Sleepless Dreams - NaNo #2

Morning, Blerg
She could hear it. The restless sound of the rain falling. The rumbling of the thunder as it came closer. The cold breeze of the wind blowing around her. Yet.. beneath it all, lied something else. A steady rocking. Almost like... almost like waves against the shore. Cold it was though, so cold. Her body stretched and she slipped further down. Down into the warmth, it sealing over her head like a cocoon.

Down beneath the waves.

Her eyes opened slowly, the murky sea green cast with shadows. She smiled, floating there, hearing the distant sound of the rain as it danced across the surface of the ocean. In the distance she could hear it, hear the song of the open sea calling to her, beckoning. She had been too long near the shore. It was time to go home.

Leaning forward, her arms streatching out, she spread her fingers, feeling the tender flaps of skin between them go taunt and caress the water. A gental push, a flick of her powerful tail, and she was off. It was always like this after she breeched the surface. Her delacate and sensitive skin relishing the feel of the water flowing past her. She giggled, the still ocean floor rushing past her  as she made her way out to the open sea. Past the battered remains of old, sunken ships, now nothing more than a few lumps on the sea floor.

Sleepless Dreams - NaNo #1

Moon Goddess
Why can't I sleep? She rolled over and punched her pillow before trying to huddle back down in her blankets. Gods, I'm so tired.

It was the third night in a row where she would lay in bed, utterly exhaused and yet unable to drift off to sleep. Eventually it would come well after the sun was peeking over the horizon. Like a thief in the, well, pre-dawn hours, sending her into the deep and dreamless sleep of the insominacs.

Tossing over yet again, her eyes drifted over to the windows, blinds still drawn, almost suprised to find it still dark around the edges. She could almost swear she felt the sun coming up. With a groan, she shut her eyes and did her best to force herself to sleep by sheer willpower alone. That was when she heard it.

It started soft, perhaps it was just the house settleling. Was that just the beating of her own heart ringing in her ears in the silance that hung in the air? She held her breath. There it was again, closer now, off in the distance. The rolling thunder of a summer storm brewing. A slow smile spread across her lips, her eyes opening a crack. Her eyes drifted back to the window, another rumble of thunder, this one shaking the house ever so gently.

Like a mother rocking her baby. I wonder, her sleep fogged brain muddled, is it raining outside?

She found herself pushing the covers back and half crawling, half falling out of bed, walking over towards the window. Before she realized what she was doing, the blinds were pulled up, the window unlatched and then slid open. The soft patter of the rain falling from the sky to dance along the leaves of the trees. A deep breath and she could smell it. Smell the storm, the rain. Smell life itself.

Now maybe I can sleep. Turning, she crawled back into bed, fluffing her pillow and pulling the covers tightly around her yet again. Eyes drifted shut, and ears listened.

NaNoWriMo

Seeing [info]bpeace posting the "NaNoMriMo" stuff, another boute of insomnia (due to puppy again! she ate half a king sized bar of chocolate and was wired. scared shitless that she'd have a heart attack. >_<) and me being bored outta my mind while Democracy downloads all my TV shows.. I decided to look up WTF NaNoWriMo is.. National Novel Writing Month.

There is only 17 days left in november... to hit the 50,000 word count i'd have to write about 3,000 words a day. Playing around in my word processor shows me that it's about five pages at a 12 point font. A day..

Wonder if I can do it........

...probably not.

Should I try? Should I not? So many stories I have floating in my head, most I've started writing at one point in time or another, and NaNo you need to have a fresh start.

I went back over my RP stories... the journal entries for my character PeeJee.. most were about 500+ words, and that was sometimes pushing it.

Thought I'm tempted to at least start back up with Laughnen, or at least pull the plot out, spruce it up a bit, and give it another go. There's my Old Japan series.

So many stories, but my mind is muddled. Nothing is clear lately.

Thoughts? Ideas? Discussion?

P.S. It's never a good idea to get caught up on episodes of Supernatural during a boute of insomnia... >_<

Added a little bit after the desc of the Yokai.
Finished up the sword fight, though I'm not happy with it yet. It ends at a better spot for now.

This is another portion of the book that I mention in this post. This bit actually happens sometime before the previously posted blurb. Again, please remember that this is a rough draft. Names and places may change in the future, I've just chosen easy ones to keep them straight in my mind for the time being. Read it here )

Ok, as you may or may not know, I like to write. I write novels, can never do anything short (or hadn't you noticed from my long entries in this journal?). Anyway.. I've been writing a story now for about two years or so... here is an portion that I had recent inspiration for.... please remember that this is a ROUGHT DRAFT. The most it's going to have is spell check.
"What are you..." Shock wiped Laughnen's face blank, her mind unable to comprehend what was happening. She dropped her eyes to the cold steel sprouting out of her breast.

"Foolish child," the cold, familiar voice ran through the hall, echoing in her head. "How did my brethren ever think that a girl such as you could ever hope to defeat me?"

Pain began to sprout from the blade buried in her chest. Slowly realization began to wash over her. She raised her eyes to the cold, black eyes of her enemy. Those eyes which only a moment ago were a warm, chocolate brown. The eyes of a dear friend. That familiar face now marred by a jagged scar.

"No.." Tears welled up in her eyes. How could I have been so blind! Stumbling backward, she grasped the hilt of the protruding dagger. Suppressing a scream, she drew the dark blade out of her chest. Kursk's hideous laughter chilled her to the bone. To have thought that he could have been Kale. Oh Goddess, why did you rely on me?

"I should have known it would be this easy," the sneer on his face transformed the scar to a hideous gash down his face, his eyes burning with the black fire of power. "You and your kind are so trusting, so easily deceived."

The sound of metal on stone resounded as Laughnen crashed to her knees, the dagger skittering across the floor. Goddess, what have I done?! Tears flowed down her cheeks as her hands clutched at the wound in her chest. She could feel her life slipping away.

Maybe one of these days the Muse will allow me to finish this book. Who knows.

Anyway... make sure to take a good look around my site. I've done some major revisions here and there... minor ones all over the place. Most have occurred at the Silver Phoenix Designs. I also have a new Spirit book for my site competition visitors to sign. Stop by my spirit page and take a look.

Right now I've got a kitty on my lap, she's been rather affectionate today. It's so rare that she is. But I need to get to bed. It's going to be hard enough to want to wake up tomorrow, let alone add sleep depravation to it. My sleep schedule is going to be so messed up come Monday. *sigh* Oh well...
